Folks taking a ride down the Mother Road over the weekend were treated to a car show and some live entertainment as they stopped for a bit in Braidwood.

The weather cooperated over the weekend, providing a sunny and pleasant spring day for exploring town after town and taking a relaxing journey down Historic Route 66.

Red Carpet gets a boost from Exelon

The Red Carpet Corridor is set to make its return to Route 66 May 4. And this year’s event will go over with a boost from Exelon’s Braidwood Station.

On March 12, Braidwood Station Site Communicator Brett Nauman presented a $1,500 donation to help pay for this year’s festivities. The check was presented at the Braidwood City Council meeting to Red Carpet committee representative Michelle Serena.

“Before I took the job at Exelon about 18 months ago, I didn’t know a lot about the Red Carpet Corridor event,” Nauman told the council during its regular meeting.

Marking a dozen years of celebration, the Red Carpet Corridor returns to Route 66 this weekend, with music, entertainment, food, and more set to enthrall visitors who stop in Braidwood along the 90-mile trek.

The 12th Annual Red Carpet Corridor Festival hits the Mother Road on Saturday, May 5.

And to help boost the event, Exelon’s Braidwood Station nuclear power plant has made a $1,500 donation to organizers.

Representatives from Exelon and the Braidwood Area Chamber of Commerce announced the donation and promoted the event during the April 24 City Council meeting.
