Some streets to close Sunday for Braidwood 5K

The Second Annual Braidwood Memorial Day 5K, presented by Constellation, is scheduled for Sunday, May 19, with course closures beginning at 8:45 a.m. and the race beginning promptly at 9 a.m. The race will begin and end at Old Smokey City Park, and will be run along residential roadways.
The registration fee is $30 (plus $3.86 sign-up fee via online registration).
Participants will receive an event T-shirt, and the first 400 participants to cross the finish line will receive a medal. Walkers are also welcome to participate.

Braidwood ESDA adds weather station

The city of Braidwood now has additional ways to keep the public up to date in cases of emergencies, weather situations, or just to all around keep people in the know.

Last week, Braidwood Emergency Services and Disaster Agency (ESDA) coordinator Josh Bolatto announced that organization had obtained a commercial weather station.

Braidwood seeks partnership with Will County for local alert system

Braidwood could be the next Will County municipality to sign on to a community information system offered through Will County.

Earlier this spring, members of Braidwood Emergency Services and Disaster Agency (ESDA) said they were hoping to create a partnership with the county to help get the word out to more residents during developing events, such as emergency road closures or issued public safety alerts.

Braidwood’s emergency responders are always quick to respond to a call. But working closely alongside those responders to help keep scenes organized are the volunteers from the Braidwood Emergency Services and Disaster Agency (ESDA), who provide city-wide support to law enforcement and the fire department for both emergency and non-emergency needs.

On May 9, ESDA Coordinator Josh Bolatto provided the agency’s annual report to the members of the City Council.

Braidwood’s Emergency Services adn Disaster Agency (ESDA) issued a few alerts over the past few days, but rather than rain and storms, this time is was cold that had the agency looking out for the public, notifying residents of potential freeze conditions.

ESDA is charged with keeping the public informed during potential dangerous situations, including inclement weather.

While Severe Weather Preparedness month falls each year in March, people in the Midwest should always be aware of the watches and warnings that could affect them, and have a plan to take action when April showers—not to mention May, June, July, and the rest of the year—gets a little nasty.

Braidwood ESDA logs 974 hours in 2021

Braidwood’s Emergency Services and Disaster Agency (ESDA) closed out the 2021 calendar year with dozens of calls, reports and manpower hours under its belt.

ESDA Coordinator Josh Bolatto reported that in 2021, ESDA’s nine person volunteer operation recorded 480 Incident/Event Hours and 974 Manpower Hours.

Railroad study comments due by week’s end

Local residents have until the end of this week to submit their feedback in the last public hearing before the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) moves to the next step of its rail assessment study.

Public comment will be accepted through Friday, Jan. 21 as part of an ongoing study assessing the state’s rail system to help identify potential improvements and solutions.

Braidwood ESDA continues to fight for clear crossings

Freight trains blocking crossings in the city of Braidwood continue to be both bothersome and a potential public health hazard for the city’s roughly 6,300 inhabitants.

On June 9, residents reported to the Braidwood Journal that yet another train was blocking crossings from Division Street in Braidwood all the way to Kankakee Street in Godley for several hours.

It’s an issue that Braidwood’s Emergency Services and Disaster Agency (ESDA) has been working to address for years.
