Jaden Christian places in two events at state

    Reed-Custer track freshman Jaden Chrsitian made the medal stand this past weekend, as she finished in the top eight in two state events.
    She wound up advancing to the state finals on Saturday, qualifying in both, long jump and triple jump.
    Christian started off the preliminary round in long jump, where she earned a distance of 18’ .5”, finishing with the fourth-best distance on the day.
    Erika Furbeck from Geneseo wound up with the best jump, 19’ 3.5”.
    Twelve girls qualified for the three flights, which consisted of 24 competitors.
    Christian also qualified in triple jump, where she finished with a distance of 35’ 6”, and earned the No. 6 spot in the preliminary rankings.
    Jayla Campbell from Rich Central earned the best jump of the day with a distance of 37’ 7.75”.
    Again, the IHSA took the top 12 girls from the three flights, which consisted of 29 athletes.
    In the finals, Christian repeated her long jump distance, earning 18’ .5”, which was good enought to place fifth in state.
    Furbeck wound up with the top spot again, jumping for 19’ 5”.
    In triple jump, Christian bested her preliminary distance by nearly two feet finishing with a measurement of 37’ 2.5”. That was good enough to earn her a sixth place finish.
    Imani Carothers from Chicago Brooks took the top spot with a jump of 42’ 10”.
