Holiday tournament results

With all three schools participating in some sort of holiday tournament over the week, it can be pretty hectic staying updated on the results. Here's how each team is doing in their respective sport and tournament as of Thursday afternoon:

 

Boys basketball

Reed-Custer has gone 1-1 through their first two games at the Marseilles Tournament, picking up a win in the opening round against Serena, 79-65. They suffered a second round loss to third-seed Seneca, 71-61. The Comets play tonight (Thursday) in the fifth place bracket against St. Bede at 5 p.m. If the Comets win, they advance to face either Kewanee or Gardner-South Wilmington for fifth. If they lose, the best they can do is seventh.

Coal City and Wilmington are both playing in the Plano Christmas Classic. The Coalers entered the tournament as the 15th seed, and suffered a first round loss to Chicago Crane, 59-49. They bounced back in the second round against IMSA, winning by a 17-point margin, 50-33, to stay alive in the consolation bracket. The Coalers play tonight at 6:30 p.m. against Kaneland.

Wilmington suffered a first round loss to Clemente in their side of the bracket, 63-43, and wound up falling in the second round to Plano, 62-35. The Wildcats move to the 21st place bracket, where they will play against Yorkville Christian at 5 p.m.

 

Girls basketball

Reed-Custer and Coal City both made the trip to Lisle this week to compete in the Holiday Cage Classic. Both teams got off to tough starts, receiving losses in the first round. The Lady Coalers fell to Rosary in a close battle, 48-42, and move to the consolation side of the bracket to face Lisle at 5 p.m. tonight.

The Lady Comets dropped their opening game to Chicago Latin, 69-51, and also moved to the consolation bracket to face Illiana tonight at 5 p.m.

As for Wilmington, they entered the Momence Holiday Tournament, where they suffered a first round loss to Tri-Point, 42-36. They took on Momence today at 1:30 p.m.

 

Wrestling

All three local schools, Wilmington, Coal City and Reed-Custer's wrestling programs headed down to Springfield for the ABE's Rumble. 

Coal City has been performing brilliantly, earning a semifinal appearance in the 32-team championship bracket. They wrestle Clifton Central for a chane to reach the finals, and a chance to repeat as team champions.

Reed-Custer and Wilmington also reached the 32-team championship bracket. The Comets fell in the opening round to Vandalia (53-18), while the Wildcats defeated Mt. Carmel in round one, 50-25. Wilmington lost in the following round to Monicello, 42-34. 

In the consolation bracket, the Wildcats have suffered another loss to LeRoy, 47-30, while the Comets are doing well in the consolation bracket, defeating Auburn and Hoopeston Area, 45-26 and 42-38, respectively.
