Reed-Custer makes plans for federal COVID aid dollars

The Reed-Custer School District has outlined its plans to utilize the next round of Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief funds (ESSER III).

ESSER III funds are part of the American Rescue Plan. Congress passed three stimulus bills in 2020 and 2021 to provide $190 billion to the ESSER fund, which is given to states and then allocated by the state to local school districts.

The state of Illinois remains in Tier 3 resurgence mitigations in an attempt to mitigate the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Over the past few weeks, Gov. JB Pritzker has asked municipalities and local law enforcement to help when it comes to implementation of those Tier 3 restrictions, which include a ban on indoor service at bars and restaurants, and capacity limits at grocery stores and pharmacies of 50%, and capacity limits of 25% for health and fitness centers, personal care services, malls, and retail stores outside of grocery stores or pharmacies.

Tier 3 resurgence mitigations continue to stay in effect across the state.

On Monday, Gov. JB Pritzker said the state would evaluate any effects of the Thanksgiving holiday before making any changes regarding the current resurgence mitigations.

As the Wilmington School District 209-U prepares for virtual parent-teacher conferences this week, members of the administration are singing the praises of the faculty and staff at all four district schools.

Superintendent Dr. Matt Swick gave an update on the school district’s plans and efforts for face to face learning during the ongoing novel coronavirus pandemic during this month’s meeting of the school board.
