Event to tell how to shield kids from predators

The Wilmington Coalition for a Healthy Community (WCHC) will host its 2nd annual Human Trafficking event on Saturday, Oct. 11 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., raising awareness about child online exploitation.
Sexual predators increasingly use online games as a means to easily gain access to and connect with children.
Learn more about keeping our youth safe while online by attending this free event at the South Island park pavilion in Wilmington.

Breaking the Chain: Town Hall session filled with hope

The Wilmington Coalition for a Healthy Community will be hosting a Town Hall meeting on Monday, Aug. 11 at the Mar Theatre, 121 S. Main St.
Michael Menard, a Kankakee native and bestselling author, will be the keynote speaker. His memoir, "The Kite That Couldn't Fly" became an unexpected catalyst for trauma awareness, leading to his groundbreaking new book, "Greater Than Gravity: How Childhood Trauma is Pulling Down Humanity."

Drug Take Back event a success for Wilmington, Braidwood

Members of both the Wilmington and Braidwood communities gave a hand to law enforcement and local drug abuse prevention organizations in the effort to combat the misuse and abuse of prescription drugs last month.

The Wilmington Coalition for a Healthy Community and the Braidwood Area Healthy Community Coalition teamed up to host a drug take back event in Wilmington on Oct. 24. The event was held at the CVS in Wilmington, with assistance from the Wilmington Police Department.

Twelve years ago, a small group of concerned citizens and the Wilmington Police Department put together an anti-drug forum to discuss the issues of abuse and ways the community could address them.

Three buildings, so many possibilities

    It seems everybody now has an interest in the building the city of Wilmington couldn’t sell a year ago. Wilmington Township is throwing its hat in the ring, and would like to see if the old police station would be suitable for a township administration center.
