Altiery files lawsuit to get job back

At the July 22 Braidwood City Council meeting, the city clerk was served a subpoena on behalf of Tony Altiery, former Braidwood City Administrator vs. the City of Braidwood by his attorney John V. Schrock of Plainfield.
Altiery is asking to be reinstated to the position of Supervisor of Streets and Public Improvement and Supervisor of Public Improvement, at the annual salary of $119,000 with health insurance, 30 days vacation, 72 hours of sick time, annual raises, a $600 clothing allowance and a $150 boot allowance.

Parents, students, await ruling on mask mandate lawsuit

A lawsuit filed by parents across the state to try to overturn the statewide school mask mandate may get a ruling by the end of the week.

Districts Wilmington 209-U and Elwood 203 are among 145 school districts named in a lawsuit filed in October to end the mandate put in place this school year by Gov. JB Pritzker.

The lawsuit was filed on Oct. 20, 2021 in Macoupin County by attorney Thomas DeVore on behalf of dozens of parents across the state. The case is being heard in Sangamon County Circuit Court.

Elwood files lawsuit against Joliet's warehouse plans

The village of Elwood is asking the courts for relief from the city of Joliet's plans to expand upon its warehouse industrial area.

On June 16, the village filed a complaint for declaratory judgment and injunctive relief against the City of Joliet and East Gate Logistics Park with the Twelfth Juridical Circuit in Will County.

Soucie termination case remains in limbo

Braidwood’s former deputy chief will remain on paid leave, with no end in sight to the internal case surrounding her employment with the city.

On March 25, a Will County judge dismissed a counterclaim by the city of Braidwood against former Deputy Chief Michelle Soucie, thus granting her petition for a permenant injunction against the Police and Fire Board.

Restraining order issued in Deputy Chief discipline case

The former deputy chief of the Braidwood Police Department won a petition this week for a temporary restraining order (TRO), putting the brakes on the city’s plan to bring her to the Police and Fire Board for an official disciplinary ruling.

On Jan. 8, Judge John Anderson issued the TRO in the case of Michelle Soucie versus the board. On Monday, Jan. 7, attorneys for Soucie, as well as for the board, the city of Braidwood, and police Chief Nick Ficarello, made oral arguments in downtown Joliet.

Braidwood’s Deputy Police Chief remains on administrative leave, awaiting the results of an investigation that appears to have no end in sight.

Deputy Chief Michelle Soucie was placed on leave in January 2017, following the start of an internal investigation, according to Police Chief Nick Ficarello.

Ficarello said Soucie is being investigated for payroll theft allegations, but would not elaborate as the case remains open. Ficarello said the state police interviewed Soucie in April 2017, but so far, he said, the investigation is stalled.

Civil rights lawsuit against city continues

A civil rights violation lawsuit against the city of Braidwood alleging misconduct surrounding the 2015 mayoral election has received a split decision in federal court.

Bob Snedeker, who threw his hat into the mayor’s race in December 2014, filed a lawsuit in the United States District Court, Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division, in November 2016, with an amended complaint filed in February of this year.

On July 14, Braidwood’s Deputy Chief of Police Michelle Soucie filed a civil rights lawsuit against the city of Braidwood in the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division. The lawsuit alleges “a continuous stream of negative and sexually suggestive comments on the basis of her sex.”
