JV Warriors rout Pontiac

The 7th grade Warriors boys basketball team got a big win over Pontiac Monday night by a score of 34-20.
Coal City came out of the game with a tenacious defense, holding Pontiac to zero points in the first quarter.
Then, the Warriors took a half-time lead of 18-10 into the locker room with a halfcourt buzzer beater from Hayden Kennell.

Trotter named middle school assistant principal

Coal City Middle School students will see a new face when they arrive for classes in August.
Taryn Trotter is joining the middle school administrative team as the school's assistant principal. She replaces Tom Ruzinok who resigned his post to take a principal’s position outside the district.
Trotter comes to Coal City from District 60C where she served as assistant principal and mentor coordinator at Saratoga School in Morris. She joined the staff in 2002 as a fifth grade teacher and was appointed to the assistant position in 2012.

Post 1336, CCMS partner on veterans project

St. Juvin Post 1336 Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) once again partnered with Coal City Middle School to send holiday greetings to area veterans.
The Cards for Vets program started in 2013  when Post 1336 quartermaster Jim Richards asked the activity director at one of the skilled care facilities members were visiting if the veterans there received Christmas cards.Post members were at the facility to present service logo tapestry throws to veterans.

Wishes in the woods

As the adage goes, be careful what you wish for, because sometimes what we want most doesn’t turn out the way we thought it would be.
Coal City Middle School students have come to learn that wishes come with consequences as they retell some classic fairy tales in a unique and musical way.
This weekend, 33 middle schoolers will take the stage to bring life to a few classic fairy tale characters in the school’s production of “Into the Woods.”

Lady Warriors split with Manteno

    The Coal City eighth grade softball team kicked off its season Saturday, by splitting a double-header with Manteno.
    In the first game of the day the Lady Warriors won by a slim margin, defeating the Panthers, 8-7.
    Katilyn Jasper picked up the “W” in the circle, as she fanned nine batters down the stretch.
    Lexi Willis led the offense with two hits, one RBI and one run scored, while Addison Gagliardo followed with two hits and one run.
