City to residents: Time to take pride in your properties

With warmer weather, so comes longer grass and weeds.

Now that the big freeze of winter is officially passed, city leaders in Braidwood are asking residents to head outside and take care of their properties. Earlier this month, Public Health and Safety Commissioner Eric Tessler announced that Code Enforcement

Officer Roy Overland would be doing rounds as the weather gets warmer, making sure property owners are following city codes on the upkeep of their land.

Council approves $165,000 for spring projects

The city of Braidwood is getting set for spring public works projects, approving payments totaling more than $165,000.

On April 11, members of the City Council approved two separate projects. The council approved a payment of $53,596 to Len Cox and Sons Excavating of Crest Hill, for work already completed on the North Division Street sanitary sewer project.

Homeowner says no way to road widening

A long-time Braidwood resident is hoping that city leaders will keep their word not to take part of his land to widen one street desperately in need of repairs.

Tim Freckleton, a 39-year resident who lives at the corner of School and First Streets, approached members of the City Council on March 28. Freckleton said his land, which totals about eight-tenths of an acre, has been in his family for decades.

“This land has great sentimental value,” Freckleton told the members of the Braidwood City Council. “Why? Our family and relatives have owned this land for 84 years.”
