Coaler Homecoming is underway

It’s Homecoming week at Coal City High School and a host of activities are planned to celebrate the Coalers.
The week started with students and staff showing up in their grass skirts and tropical themed attire for Hawaiian Day. Tuesday was designated as Decade Day with an emphasis to incorporate yellow into their attire to recognize September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
Tuesday also served as the Coaler Volleyball team’s annual Megan Bugg Night in honor of their classmate and former teammate.
The evening included a variety of events to assist Bugg with her goal of raising funds and awareness for the need for more childhood cancer research.
In her efforts, Bugg teamed with online retailer Ivory Ella to create a childhood cancer awareness T-shirt ,with a portion of the proceeds going to support cancer research. The company not only provided shirts for the volleyball team to wear, but it sent a representative to take part in the evening’s events.
Today students came to school in their designated class colors of orange, red, blue and purple.
Following a full day of classes, the student body will gather at the school for Spirit Night starting at 6:30 p.m. The evening event will include a variety of class competitions and games, along with snacks provided by the Coal City Athletic Boosters.
Thursday is Farmer Day so individuals passing by the school might find a tractor or two parked in the west lot.
The day will wrap up with a home soccer game and a varsity tennis match.
Coaler Spirit Day will be held Friday. Students are encouraged to wear the school colors and take part in the annual pep assembly that includes an introduction of the football team and presentations by the band, poms and cheerleaders.
A highlight of the week is the homecoming football game.  The Coalers will host the Plano Reapers and during half-time the school’s homecoming king and queen will be introduced.
Homecoming Week will wrap up with the all-school dance beginning at 7 p.m.
