Wilmington re-dedicated onto Will County Historical Register

A DEDICATION CEREMONY and ribbon cutting was held Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church of Wilmington where a plaque designating the building as a Will County Historical Landmark was unveiled. Steven Evans, who orchestrated the application and successful acceptance by Will County, points as he thanks many of the 40 people who attended the event. Evans explained that it was a 4 1/2-year process from gathering the history of the church, completing the application and appearing before the Will County Historic Preservation Commission and county board to get accepted on Aug. 15, 2024. The plaque was mounted on the church next to the original 1903 cornerstone. Lined up for the ribbon cutting are (from left) Tom Johnson, Sue Johnston, Kathy Melhorn, Jim Johnston, Judy Johnson, Paul “Dave” Melhorn who cut the ribbon, Evans, Janice Hopwood (top step) and Marie Calhoon.
