Wilmington to hold large item pickup May 12

City-wide spring clean-up will be held in Wilmington on Friday, May 13 during regular garbage pickup day. Items must be placed curbside by 6 a.m. for pick-up.

The annual program is for Wilmington residents living in single-family homes or duplexes currently receiving city collection services.

Items to be picked up may include couches, chairs, tables, mattress, and white goods such as ranges, washers, dryers, appliances with Freon and water heaters. Automobile tires are limited to four without rims. Carpet and padding must be cut into 4-foot lengths, rolled and secured with tape or string and not exceed 50 pounds.

Items that will not be accepted include building materials, fencing, large car parts, engine oil and yard waste. Make special arrangements for these items by calling Homewood Disposal 815-932-1115.

Anyone hauling items into the city will be considered dumping and will be fined.

As of Jan. 1, 2012, the items banned from disposal in Illinois include televisions, monitors, printers, desktop, laptop, notebook and tablet computers, electronic keyboards, fax machines, videocassette recorders, portable digital music players, DVD players, DVD recorders, video game consoles, small scale servers, scanners, electronic mice, digital converter boxes, cable receivers, satellite receivers, cell phones, computer cable, portable digital assistants (PDAs) and zip drives.
