Wildcats fall to the Knights

The Wildcats gave up 33 unanswered points to the defending Class 3A state champions and never recovered as they lost a 46-21 battle with IC Catholic in Elmhurst Saturday.

Wilmington stayed within striking distance in the first half, at one point owning a 14-13 second quarter lead, but three fumbles in the third period came back to haunt the Cats in the end.

Wildcat senior Matteo Lombardi, who did his best to elude quick IC defenders all night, finished with 174 yards rushing in 22 attempts, including one for a 37-yard touchdown. The other touchdowns were scored by quarterback Keaton Hopwood from one yard out and on a Hopwood pass to Conner Dempsay from 11 yards out.
