On Monday, Nov. 6, Wilmington High School’s chapter of the National Honors Society (NHS) inducted 15 new members. In order to be a member of NHS students must maintain a 3.75 GPA, complete individual volunteer hours, and participate in service projects done by the whole chapter.

In September of the 2023-24 school year students were informed of their eligibility to join the chapter. Students then applied with 50 verified service hours, recommendation letters, and character essays.

The applications are then reviewed by a faculty panel to determine if these applicants hold the values of NHS, and if they are fit to represent the organization. The values of NHS include scholarship, leadership, service, and character. These values are known as the guiding pillars.

The induction itself included: Recognizes current members, the candle ceremony highlighting the four pillars, presentation of new members as they place an object of importance into a treasure chest, ending with the reading of the National Honors Society pledge.

This brings the overall membership total to 33 Juniors and Seniors who show excellence in the guiding pillars.
