Service to community earns awards for two RCHS seniors

Reed-Custer High School seniors Beth Crater and Landon Jankus were recently presented with the the 2024 Illinois Principals Association - 3 Rivers Region Principal Recognition Award.
Beth, daughter of Kurt and Jennifer Crater, has been extremely involved at school and in the community throughout her time at RCHS, most notably in the realm of Family and Consumer Sciences.
She has been in FCCLA all four years, qualifying for state three times. She is also the National Honor Society president, a 2024 class officer, and is a member of Comet Community Leaders and World Culture Club.
She has amassed almost 200 community service hours, far exceeding the school’s 25-hour graduation requirement. Beth has also been in the Lady Comet volleyball program for four years. She is proud to be in the ACE (Architecture, Construction Management, and Engineering)Program at WILCO. Her future plans are to attend a 4-year college for architecture, obtain a Master's Degree, and eventually work as a Residential Design Architect. Beth sets a great example for both her peers and underclassmen.
Landon, son of Steve and Marysa Jankus, has done an excellent job balancing academics, extra-curricular activities and service to the local community. An Illinois State Scholar, he has been in Band, Marching Band, and Baseball (ICE Conference All-Academic) all four years.
He also was in the Basketball program for two years, is a member of Comet Community Leaders, and participated in Academic Challenge, where he placed in the top 3 in both Physics and Chemistry.
Landon has logged almost 100 community service hours, surpassing the 25-hour graduation requirement, mainly volunteering for the Braidwood Baseball/Softball Association.
He plans to attend a 4-year university to pursue a degree, likely in sports management. Landon is a kind and polite young man, and we are excited to see what the future holds for him.
