With just one week till opening night of “Les Miserables,” seniors Koren Frideres and Savannah Magee  are preparing for their final stage productions at Coal City High School.
Both girls have been involved in other high school shows.
Magee is more comfortable working backstage. She helped tech the school’s fall plays, such as “Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz,” and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” she was also behind the curtain for “Little Shop of Horrors” in 2016.
Unlike Magee, Frideres enjoys performing on-stage in the fall plays, with “Les Miserables” being her first musical.
As they reflect on the past four years, Frideres and Magee reveal influential lessons they have learned.             Magee said throughout high school, one never ceases to learn more whether that be in the classroom or through everyday experiences. Frideres has learned not to care about what others say about her, but instead she believes in, “being yourself and doing what you love for the limited amount of time that you have.”
“Les Miserables” is a mature musical with a powerful message. With this in mind, Frideres and Magee were asked how they thought audiences may react to this show.
“This musical has a lot to tell, which makes it different from anything we have done in the past. In the end, I think audiences will appreciate this change of pace,” Frideres said.
Magee shares a similar opinion that “Les Miserables” is not a kid’s show, but she thinks adults will enjoy the story.
These senior girls hope many people will attend their last high school show, “Les Miserables” at the Coal City Performing Arts Center. Show dates are March 8-11. Advanced reserved seat tickets are $8 per adult and $5 for children and senior citizens by visiting
