Police to sell surplus vehicles

The Coal City Police Department is getting rid of a few vehicles and one could be used to patrol the parking lots of Morris Hospital.

Police Chief Tom Best sought and was granted permission to dispose of four vehicles his department can no longer utilize for patrol. He has offered one of the units for the hospital to utilize as a security vehicle.

"I think that is a nice gesture of good will, we deal with (the hospital) on a pretty regular basis," the chief said in regards to the donated vehicle.

Village trustees agreed to list as surplus property a 2003 Chevy Impala, 2009 Crown Victoria, 2009 Ford Explorer and 2010 Ford Explorer.

The department plans to offer the three remaining vehicles for sale through the government surplus auction site GovDeals.com. Proceeds from the sale will go to town's general fund.
