Miners advance to second round playoffs

Two Miners football teams advance to the second round in Wilmington after winning their first round playoff games.

The JV Miners won 38-0 against Reed Custer.  The offensive line set the tone for the game and was led by Xavier Ramirez, Noah Grant and Ryker Long.  Running back Caiden Tourigny put up 4 of the Miners' touchdowns and Frank Roehr scored the fifth TD.  The defense lea by defensive tackle Hayden Kennell and linebacker Caiden Brown held Reed Custer to a shutout.  The defense also put up a safety and a Tyce Farrell interception.    The Miners move to round 2 against the Manhattan Patriots this Saturday in Wilmington.

The Varsity Miners won 41-0 over the Sandwich Indians in the first round.  The offense kept rolling this week with 4 touchdowns.  Cooper Morris started the scoring on a 6 yard TD run.  Logan Natyshok followed up with a long 62 yard TD run and then Brody D'Orazio had a 50 yard TD run.  Miners ended the half with a 26 yard field goal by Theo Fritz.  

In the 2nd half, the Miner's came out and scored on a 12 yard run by Kole Carpenter.  The offensive line of Theo Fritz, Kyle Odam, Brady Endrst, Gaven Clubb, Emmitt Easton and Keaton Berta dominated the line of scrimmage again this week. Miners defense recorded another shutout and it was a total team defensive effort.  Leading tackler was Aidan Scrogham and the Miners had an interception by Bobby Rodriguez and Cooper Morris.  Miners continue this week with matchup against Peotone on Sunday at 11 am in Wilmington.

The Miner Superlights and Lightweights both had first round byes. The CC Superlights are the #1 seed who will play Morris#8 Saturday at 11 a.m. The Lightweight Miners #4 will take on Manteno #5 at 9 a.m. Sunday.
