With all three precincts in the city of Braidwood reporting, it seems the voters have enough confidence in the city’s appointed Commissioner of Public Health and Safety to officially give him the job.

Per the unofficial results from the Will County Clerk’s office, James ‘Moose’ Mikel defeated Andrew Galatte to fulfill the last two years of the unexpired term.

Mikel earned 80% of the vote, winning 588 votes to Galatte’s 145.

The seat was left vacant after Commissioner Charlie Hart, who was elected in 2019, passed away in November 2020.

Mikel was later appointed by Mayor Bob Jones to fill the seat leading up to the election.
