It’s Homecoming Week at Wilmington High School!

THE WHS HOMECOMING COURT was announced on Monday. Presiding over the Homecoming festivities will be (from left): sophomore attendants - Peter Rampa and Abby Mandac; senior attendants - Abbie Rampa and Jake Friddle; Allen Richards and Rae DesRochers; King and Queen - Tysen Meents and Neve VanDuyne; senior attendants - Chase Juster and Bridget Knowles; junior attendants - Haley Dempsay and Colin James; freshmen attendants - Hunter Osipavicius and Reese VanDuyne
After 2020’s restricted Homecoming celebrations due to Covid-19, WHS is eager to revive annual traditions.
The festivities began on Monday, and will follow through the week ending with the Homecoming dance on Saturday evening.
The WHS Student Council has planned fun events and dress-up days for the student body with the theme: “To the moon.”
Kicking off the week, students attended school in their finest sleep wear Monday to hear the announcements of Homecoming Court.
Then on Tuesday the student body lit the halls with neon clothes.
Today (Wednesday), Wilmington High School will be filled with “tourists” due to the dress up day. The real excitement will be the powder puff game later that evening when girls among different grade levels have chosen teams and will play against each other in flag football. Boys do the cheerleading.
Thursday the hallways will be scattered with different colors. Each grade level has their own class color. The freshman color is orange, the sophomore color is green, the junior color is blue, and seniors black. The school schedule is shortened that day for the games day assembly in the WHS gym, a competition among grade levels.
Friday, is the day everyone shows school spirit all decked out in Wilmington apparel. Again the school day is shortened to provide time for students to attend the Homecoming parade from the high school parking lot, south on Wildcat Drive then west on Kahler Road to Kankakee street, before finally turning north to end at the middle school.
After the parade, students will head home to prepare for the Homecoming football game against Reed-Custer High School.
To conclude this eventful week, students are welcome to enjoy a fun night of music, friends, and dancing at the Homecoming dance from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday night.
As mentioned, Student Council and some members of the faculty worked very hard the past 7 weeks to plan this celebration of our school and the people within it. So show your spirit and have lots of fun this Homecoming.
