History archived at BAHS museum

McElroy's Gas Station, seen here circa 1939, first opened up in Braidwood in 1929.

The gas station sat at the current spot where Routes 53 and 113 meet.

This photo is one of several old pictures that document Braidwood’s history that can also be found on postcards, available at the BAHS Depot Museum. The Depot Museum is open on Saturdays and Sundays this summer from noon until 3 p.m. Inside the depot’s walls you’ll find treasures that reveal Braidwood’s rich history, from coal mining and the railroad to local schools and churches, and of course, all of the area’s interesting fossils.

This summer, turn to page 3 of the Braidwood Journal for a peek at a few of the interesting items and displays you can find at the museum.
