Entries sought for Octoberfest parade

    The GFWC-IL Coal City Junior Woman’s Club continues to take entries for this year’s Octoberfest Parade, to be held Saturday, Oct. 7. The theme for the 32nd annual fall festival is “Jump into Fall.”
    The parade is free to participate, with the exception of political parties/candidates who are required to pay a $25 fee. The fee is per political person, not per political party.
    Registration can be completed by sending the organization or business name along with a contact name, phone number and e-mail, as well an indication of what the entry will include such as vehicles, trailers, walkers, etc., to Cherie Sieger at 7855 E. Arrowleaf Trail, Coal City, IL, 60416 or by e-mail to coalcityparades@gmail.com. Registration can also be made by calling Sieger at 815-634-2657.
    The parade is led by members of the woman’s club and the village of Coal City’s 2017 Community Service Award recipient. It will step off at 3 p.m. from Broadway and Carbon Street and proceed south to Walnut Street.
    Lineup will begin at 1 p.m. for floats, trucks and cars and 2 p.m. for walkers. This information, along with check-in and placement will be sent by the parade chairperson prior to parade day.
    For the safety of observers, any entry that wishes to distribute candy or other material must hand it out. Throwing of items from moving vehicles is not accepted and will be enforced.
