Coal City Theatre is Broadway bound

The Coal City Theatre Department is heading outdoors for three events this fall, beginning with its annual Broadway Bound fundraising concert.
This year’s concert will take place on Broadway as the show moves to Coal City’s Campbell Memorial Park in order to accommodate a live audience.
Broadway Bound will feature 26 students performing a few of their favorite musical theatre songs on Friday, Sept. 11 with the first performance starting at 7 p.m.
This year there will be no charge for tickets, however the theatre department will be accepting donations at the event from those who choose to do so. Funds raised from this program are used to support the group’s theatre experience in New York City, as well as master classes with Broadway performers and theatre professionals.
“We understand that this pandemic has taken a toll on countless families, and we don’t want ticket costs to deter community members from enjoying live entertainment,” said Coal City Theatre Department director Jack Micetich.
Although there is no cost to attend, tickets do need to be secured in order to ensure the event follows the pandemic guidelines put in place by the Illinois Department of Public Health and village of Coal City.

Those attending should bring something to sit on—lawn chair, blanket—and everyone is being asked to maintain a proper social distance and to wear mask when not seated in their designated area.
Broadway Bound will be followed by two additional outdoor productions featuring high school theatre students.
Four years ago this fall the students—middle schoolers at the time—presented 13, The Musical in the Coal City Performing Arts Center. This fall many of them will reprise their roles in a socially distanced concert version of this popular production.
The musical concert will take place in Dzuris Athletic Stadium at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 25 and Saturday, Sept. 26. General admission tickets are available at bit.ly/CCTDTickets.
And, for three evenings in October the group will once again be outside for The Outsiders.
The annual fall play will take place at 7 p.m. Oct. 9-11 on the Coal City Intermediate School campus. The school’s baseball field is being transformed into an outdoor theatre for the show that features 19 student actors who will share the story of Ponyboy, his greaser friends and the Socs they get mixed up with.
