The Coal City Police Department has teamed with OfferUp to provide area residents with a designated meeting location for online sales transactions.
“The police department’s ability to partner with OfferUp allows us to bring a collective and focused effort and investment to the well-being of this community by improving the security of in-person transactions,” said Sgt. Thomas Logan, the department’s public information officer.
OfferUp is an online marketplace where individuals can buy and sell merchandise from shirts and shoes to desks and dressers.
OfferUp’s  Meet up Spot program serves a needed purpose in that it provides a safe way to transfer merchandise from one person to another in a secure public location. Through its partnership with the police department, a local meet up spot has been established in Coal City’s North Park located on North Broadway.
Coal City Police have designated a spot in the park that is well lit and monitored. A sign designates it the proper location to conduct transactions.
“The Coal City Police Department is proud to partner with OfferUp to support our commitment to building trust in our community,” Logan said.
