Body of missing woman found at state park
The search for Jennifer Tannhauser, 41, of Wilmington came to an unfortunate end on July 31, when her remains were discovered by searchers in the Kankakee River State Park.
Tannhauser had been missing from her Wilmington home on July 10. The next day, her vehicle was found in the fisherman’s parking lot on Warner Bridge Road.
Tannhauser’s remains were discovered by searchers just after 2 p.m. in a heavily wooded area west of Warner Bridge Road in Will County.
Following Tannhauser’s disappearance, police, family and friends had searched the Kankakee River and the nearby closed women’s prison, where tracking dogs found her scent, to no avail.
Tannhauser’s family scheduled a search beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31. She was officially declared deceased by the Will County Coroner’s Office at 3:20 p.m.
Will County Coroner Laurie H. Summers reported on the death of Tannhauser. An autopsy was performed. The final cause and manner of death will be determined following police and toxicology reports.
Tannhauser’s remains were found in the jurisdiction of the Illinois Conservation Police, the Illinois State Police will be responsible for the investigation.
