The Coal City girls basketball team had their season come to an end on Tuesday during the 2A Reed-Custer Regional semifinal, losing 51-23 to the hosts.
The Comets went on a 7-0 run to take the lead, forcing Coal City coach Brad Schmitt to call a timeout to try to regroup.
But Reed-Custer didn’t slow down as a 9-5 run gave them a 16-5 lead after one.
The Lady Coalers got into the game in the second as they outscored Reed-Custer, 8-6 to at least cut the half-time lead to nine, 22-13, but the Comets weren’t going away.
