Do you think Will County roads are congested? What roads do you think need improvement?

Will County officials want public input as it embarks on a long-term planning effort to guide the next 25 years of transportation projects.

The “Our Way Forward 2050 Long Range Transportation Plan” will evaluate future priorities through an online survey and workshops.

Will County has taken the first steps to address the ever changing needs along Wilmington-Peotone Road.

But, just what the road will look like when the project is complete is anyone’s guess.

The Will County Division of Transportation (DOT) has kicked off a Planning and Environmental Linkages (PEL) study covering the entirety of the roadway from Route 53 in Wilmington to Drecksler Road in Peotone, as well as River Road between I-55 and Route 53.

The city of Wilmington will pay nearly $350,000 for a project that city officials aren’t too keen on.

On Aug. 15, the City Council approved an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) for proposed improvements on West River Road.

The Will County Department of Transportation is reconstructing West River Road from Route 53 to Coal City Road, despite the fact that the road was recently resurfaced.

Because the project will impact the city’s sidewalks and water lines that fall in that area, the city is responsible for replacement.
