Comets seek turnaround under new leadership

In the last two seasons, the Reed-Custer football team compiled a 4-14 record, but seven of those losses were by one score.
With coach Gavin Johnston moving to Florida, R-C is turning to a man with a strong pedigree for success in Joe Turek.
Turek spent the last 10 years as the head sophomore/junior varsity at Lincoln-Way East, a perennial contender for state titles. The varsity lost only seven total games in the last eight seasons.

Too little, too late for Comets as Wilmington rolls, Another Coaler shutout

Wilmington' varsity football team scored 38 unanswered points over the first three quarters before Reed-Custer got on the board in a 38-13 routing of the Comets Friday night.

The loss eliminates the Comets' hopes of reaching the playoffs while the Wildcats improve to 4-3 overall and  still have a chance.

 

Comets nearly upset Lisle, Coalers and Wildcats win

Reed-Custer came close in pulling off the upset of the season, scaring undefeated Lisle in a 24-21 overtime loss.

The Comets owned a 21-7 lead in the fourth against the only team in the Interstate Eight with a perfect record. Reed-Custer got its touchdowns in the air with a pair of passes from quarterback Josh Loomis to AJ Cherry and a third to Nick Mitchell, silencing the Lisle home fans at Benedictine University field Friday.

First score doesn't last for Comets

FIRST ON THE BOARD Friday night when Reed-Custer traveled to Plano were the Comets thanks to a 1-yard touchdown run by quarterback Josh Loomis. But the tide turned from there as the Reapers scored 51 unanswered points to win it 51-7. The lose drops the Comets to 2-6 with one game left, on Friday, when they host Manteno during Senior Night.
