Sunday will be a fun-filled day in Coal City

LINED UP to see Santa under the gazebo inside Campbell Park a year ago. Santa will return this Sunday to greet children. The Santa mailbox will be installed from now through Christmas.
A full day of holiday fun is coming to town on Sunday, Dec. 1.
Start the day by cheering on the runners and walkers at the 7th Annual “Holiday Hustle” which kicks off at 11 a.m. This 5K is organized by Lori Bonarek Realty and there will be a raffle for a wheelbarrow full of “holiday cheer.” The beneficiaries of this year's proceeds will be Susan's Mission.
Next, keep the holiday fun going by heading over to Campbell Memorial Park to check out the holiday decor provided by the Village of Coal City and the Coaler Drive Festival & Events Committee.
There you find the 2nd Annual Coal City Kriskindle Market organized by the GFWC IL Coal City Junior Woman's Club, which runs from 12 to 4 p.m. This year's market will have almost 20 vendors, so you can kick off your holiday shopping.
The Coaler Drive Festival & Events Committee will have a booth selling personalized ornaments for $5 to decorate the Village community tree.
Anyone who purchases an ornament can then have a message written on it in calligraphy, remembering a loved one or listing family members with the current year, to be hung on the featured this season and a new color will be added each year.
Entertainment will be provided by Entertaining Chaos, which promises acts that will amaze you.
Come have lunch with BBQ & Baker and warm drinks provided by Coffee & Repeat. Don't forget to visit the new “Gingerbread House Concession Stand” where the Coal City Junior Woman's Club will be serving free popcorn and bottled water.
New this year, the Coal City Police Department will be having a free “Craft with a Cop” event from 2 to 3 p.m. in the gazebo. Bring the kids and decorate some holiday ornaments with Coal City's finest.
Be sure to stick around for the Village Tree Lighting, which begins at 4 p.m. and runs til 6 p.m. Santa will be there to hear the wishes of the children, and the tree will be lit at 5 p.m. Stay warm by enjoying the Coal City Junior Woman's Club free hot chocolate and cookies while signing holiday cards for residents of the local senior assisted living facilities. So much to do in one day with lots of family fun.
