Custer Park teen Zachary Pruss will log his 28th mile as a runner for the national Running4Heroes campaign to honor first responder killed in the line of duty at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, along Main Street in Braidwood.
Pruss will be running one mile for Illinois State Trooper Corey Thompsen, 28, who was working a traffic enforcement detail on his state police motorcycle Oct. 18 in Champaign County when he was killed after being hit by a truck.
The run will take place in Braidwood, staging at the Braidwood Fire Department parking lot, traveling east on Main Street, turn around and finish at the BFD parking lot. The exact route might change.
Pruss has recorded memorial runs for firefighters and police officers from across the country, each one mile long, including two for lost K9s. Each run includes a police/firefighter escort with an honor flag that is returned to the family of each victim.
Pruss is already planning another run for State Trooper Clay Carns who was struck and killed by a vehicle Dec. 23 on Interstate 55 just north of Blodgett Road.
