Melissa Harvey

BRAIDWOOD—Melissa “Mel” Harvey (nee Welsh), 52, of Braidwood, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, Jan. 7, 2022 at Lightways Hospice in Joliet.
Born on Jan. 12, 1969 in Joliet, she was the daughter of William and Brenda (nee Evans) Welsh Jr. She married John Harvey on July 7, 2017. Melissa was a very giving and generous woman and was loved by all. She loved all animals especially her furfriends, Ollie and Andy, and she hated birds. She was extremely proud of her children and she loved spending time with her grandchildren above all else.
Surviving are her husband, John Harvey; son, Darrell “DJ” Williams Jr. (Miranda Czymek) of New Jersey; daughter, Whitney (Austin) Sysol, of New Jersey; grandchildren, Brycen and Beckham Sysol; step-daughter, Ashley (Nate) Swatzell, of Wisconsin; mother, Brenda (Paul) Bumpous, of Braidwood; brother, William “Bopper” (Shawn) Welsh, of Wilmington; nephews, Marcus and Zachary Welsh; great-nephew, Bentley Welsh; Pearl and Jayden Friddle and Ruby Zolper.
Preceding her in death was her father, William Welsh Jr.; grandparents, William and Charlotte Welsh Sr. and Donald and Virginia Evans.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2022 beginning at 3 p.m. until time of memorial service at 7 p.m. at the R.W. Patterson Funeral Home & Crematory in Braidwood.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Lightways Hospice or the American Diabetes Association.
