Carol Jean Nyi

FERNANDINA BEACH, FL— Carol Jean Nyi, 80, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 27, 2019 at Warner Center Community Hospice in Fernandina Beach, FL with family by her side.
Carol graduated from Mendota High School in 1957. She received her RN degree from Galesburg Cottage School of Nursing graduating in 1960. She went on to receive her Bachelors of Nursing from the College of St. Francis. Carol further specialized in enterostomal therapy and became a trained enterostomal therapist (RNET). Carol's passion was health care and upon retiring from full-time nursing, Carol continued working part-time in the nursing field with several organizations throughout the years, including Hospice of Golden Isles in Brunswick, GA.
Carol was involved with several church organizations, parish nursing, volunteer cheerleading coach, Junior Women's Club, and several medical missionary trips. She was a greyhound rescuer and an avid Jacksonville Jaguar fan (among other NFL teams). She enjoyed photography, painting, traveling, and spending time with her family.
Carol Jean is survived by her sister, Judy (Tom) Kerns; her children: Kristin (David) Crosby, Kathryn (Lee) Greene, and Todd Becker; her grandchildren: Scott (Braylee) Swick, Brad Swick, Karli (Brent Turner) Greene, Cody Crosby, Ryan Greene, Brynn Becker, Brooke Becker; three great grandchildren: Shephard Swick, Rebecca Turner, and Woodley Turner, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her beloved dog, Rio.
Preceded in death by her husband Steven Nyi, her ex-husband Howard Becker, and her parents Edwin and Christine Walter.
A memorial service was held at King of Peace in Kingsland, GA on Tuesday, July 30, 2019.
