Alicia Viteri

COAL CITY—Alicia Viteri, 93, of Coal City, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2020 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home.
Born June 28, 1926 in Quito, Ecuador, Alicia was a daughter of Dr. Eduardo and Sra. Blanca Espinosa. She was raised and educated in Quito, Ecuador and went on to marry the late Dr. Alex Viteri on May 29, 1946. Together they moved to Braidwood, where Dr. Viteri established his practice, and later settled in Coal City in 1968.
After devoting herself to raising her children, Alicia gained employment with City Mouse Boutique in Morris and later the Coal City Pharmacy, where she worked for more than 20 years. Religion was a vital aspect of her life, with devotion to the Blessed Mother being paramount. Alicia was a proud member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, and shared her faith openly with anyone and passed its importance down to her children. In later years, she was blessed to have communion brought to her by members of the church when she could no longer attend; this she cherished. Alicia took pleasure in handcrafts such as knitting and crochet, and loved spending time in the garden tending to her flowers. Above all else, family always came first in her life and she lived for her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. Alicia loved to travel to Alaska to visit her older children and grandchildren, and to see the beauty of the wilderness.
Survivors include four children: Maria (Jim Bailey) Viteri and Alex Viteri, of Anchorage, AK; Frank Viteri, of Coal City and Tony (Ernest Gamblin) Viteri, of Westchester, IL; five grandchildren: Ana Cristina (Phil) Tafs, Maria Alicia Viteri, Dr. Phillip (Erin) Weidner, Gabriel (Heather) Viteri, and Alexander Viteri and four great-grandchildren: Oliva Tafs, Paul Tafs, Nina Weidner and Adam Weidner.
Alicia was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dr. Alex Viteri in 1971; two brothers, Dr. Eduardo Espinosa and Lucho Espinosa; one sister, Lucia Viteri Espinosa and beloved niece, Alexandra Viteri Fiallo.
Per Alicia's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded, and the family is planning a memorial service at a later date, when family and friends can gather to celebrate Alicia's life.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Alicia's memory to the Martha's of Assumption Parish.
