    Do you ever wish that you could go back to the golden age of tiki? Perhaps walk in to a Trader Vic's or Don the Beachcomber circa 1950 and order an authentic Mai Tai?
    Until we figure out this time travel thing, fans of the grand mid-century Polynesian themed restaurant will have to make a pilgrimage to the last great hope for golden age of tiki, Fort Lauderdale's legendary Mai-Kai.

    This summer marks the 45th anniversary of the release of the iconic film “The Godfather” starring Marlon Brando. The film will be showing in select theatres this summer as part of a re-release in honor of the anniversary.
    “The Godfather” was nominated for 10 academy awards, winning in three categories including Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Adapted Screen Play.

Summer is Sangria season

    Summer is officially here, and so begins Sangria season.
    Sangria is a deliciously refreshing red wine punch of Spanish origin that has taken on many forms over the last few hundred years.  Whether served in a mason jar or the finest crystal, a well-made pitcher of Sangria is your ticket to summer refreshment.
    The origin of Sangria is largely unknown, but we do know that it evolved from a similar red wine cocktail called Sangaree. The term Sangaree is derived from sangre which is Spanish for blood.

    In the summer of 1958 Eddie Cochran told us that “there ain't no cure for the summertime blues.”
    Almost 60 years have passed and, as far as I know, both the summertime blues and the common cold have not yet been cured. That doesn't mean we shouldn't try, enter the Blue Margarita.
    A Blue Margarita, also known as a Moonlight Margarita is as tasty as it is colorful. The Blue Margarita is not simply a Margarita with blue food coloring. It is very much its own drink with a sweeter flavor profile than the traditional lime Margarita.

The Strawberry Frosé is the “it” drink of summer

    About a year ago I noticed an onslaught of bright red frozen strawberry cocktails in my Facebook and Instagram feeds. What I assumed to be merely Strawberry Daiquiris were actually Strawberry Frosés.
    The Strawberry Frosé was the “it” drink of summer 2016 and it looks to repeat in 2017. It is easy to make, easy to enjoy and provides a refreshing alternative to the same old frozen Margaritas and Daiquiris.

    Sometimes you need a Margarita, and sometimes you need a beer. Thanks to the miracle of modern mixology that is the Beergarita, you have them both at the same time.
    It's happy hour at your favorite restaurant. Don't tell me that you have not raised an eyebrow when a server arrives at the neighboring table with what appears to be a tray of large Margaritas stuffed with upside down bottles of beer. That can't be good, or can it?

Raise a glass to the legendary Don Rickles

    On April 6 of this year we said goodbye to legendary stand-up comedian and actor, Don Rickles.
    Despite being known as “Mr. Warmth” and “The Merchant of Venom” Rickles became a loveable fixture of mid-century Americana through regular TV and film appearances spanning half a century.
    Rickles was never a heavy drinker, but he did run with the Rat Pack in 1960s Vegas and was known to knock back a few with the Chairman of the Board.

        Tuesday June 20, will mark the official beginning of summer. Will you be ready?
    I'm not sure exactly where I will be on the first day of summer, but I know what I will be drinking. I almost always have either my first Mojito and/or my first Daiquiri of the year on the first day of summer, and why not?
    I can't think of a better way to kick off my favorite season than with the Cuban classics. This year, in addition to the Daiquiri, I will be putting a spin on one of the classics and ringing in the summer with a Strawberry Mojito.

    Horses, celebrities and over-sized hats are coming soon to a television near you as we approach 143rd running of the Kentucky Derby.
    The Mint Julep is without a doubt the darling of the Derby, and this year an estimated 127,000 Mint Juleps will be made from over 1,000 pounds of mint.  
    If you make it to the Derby, by all means grab a Mint Julep. If you're watching at home, take the opportunity to meet the Julep's lesser known cousin, the Whiskey Smash.
