Espresso Martini makes the top 10 cocktails list

    We have passed the mid-point in 2018 and Drinks International has published their annual list of the 30 best-selling cocktails in the world. No surprise at the top of the list as the Old Fashioned is the best-selling cocktail in the world for the fourth year in a row.
    The top 10 cocktails on this list rarely change, but there is a new entrant into the top 10 on the 2018 list, the Espresso Martini.
    It was odd to see a coffee cocktail among the ranks of The Manhattan, Negroni, Margarita and the Daiquiri.

    Jalisco is the heart of tequila country and the folks in the area know a thing or two about producing the absolute finest agave spirits in the world.
    While tequila aficionados prefer to shoot or sip the spirit neat, there is plenty of room for tequila cocktails in Mexico's tequila corridor. I am certain that plenty of good Margaritas and Palomas are found in these parts, but if you want an authentic taste of Jalisco you will have to sip a Cantarito from the big clay pot.

    Ask any die-hard fan of the Manhattan how they take the classic cocktail and they could more than likely describe in detail how they prefer theirs to be made.
    The preference of whiskey, the ratio of whiskey to vermouth, and the type of vermouth are among the variables that make the Manhattan one of the most customizable classics.

    Bourbon is having a bit of a moment right now thanks to the perfect storm that is the classic cocktail revival and a newfound mainstream acceptance of drinking straight bourbon.
    In fact, bourbon is currently so trendy that Jim Beam has hired Mila Kunis to be the new face of the brand, a position previously held by “outlaws” such as Kid Rock, Hank Williams Jr. and Dennis Hopper.
    Not to be outdone, Wild Turkey has hired Matthew McConaughey to pitch their bourbon to a rapidly changing customer base.

Hosting friends and neighbors for drinks on the porch or by the pool is what makes summer special. Take full advantage of the opportunity to congregate outdoors. That first cold snap will be here all too soon.
There is nothing wrong with an ice chest full of your favorite beer, or an open bottle of wine to serve to guests. If you wish to go beyond beer and wine, you have to decide if you are going to work your home bar during the gathering or provide a self-serve option for your guests.

    The Mojito is a drink that is often made but rarely made well. Most hotel and resort bars use a mojito mix and far too many neighborhood bars simply throw something that resembles a Mojito in a glass before drowning it in club soda.
    If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself. That's exactly what we are going to do this week, and it's going to be great.

    Floral flavors are perhaps the biggest food trend of 2018, thanks to Meghan Markle and the royal wedding planners.
    Meghan and Prince Harry opted for a lemon elderflower wedding cake from renowned pastry chef Claire Ptak and several floral cocktails were on the menu for those fortunate enough to attend the royal cocktail parties.
    Foodies are not the only ones taking notice of the trends in floral flavors. The cocktail community has responded with a new wave of delicious floral cocktails, none of which require royal blood to enjoy.

    Most of the world's most popular spirits have their own signature cocktail. Tequila has the Margarita, Gin has the Martini, and Whiskey the Old Fashioned.
    Vodka is the top-selling spirit the world over but has no “signature” cocktail.
    Sure, the versatility of vodka allows the spirit to be paired with everything from cola to cranberry juice, but none of those two-ingredient concoctions approach the iconic status of the aforementioned classics.
