    Just in case you missed it, Febr. 22 was National Margarita day.
    I know, it was probably snowing in your town which is about the most un-Margarita thing that could have happened on that glorious day.
    At some point spring will arrive, the sun will shine and you will have your first Margarita of the year. The Margarita is many things to many people and has created quite a bit of controversy during the craft cocktail boom of the last decade. Frozen or rocks, salt or no salt, agave nectar or sugar, mix or no mix, and the debate rages on.

    There are a few common reasons that cocktails disappear from bar menus.
    The most common reason is that the drink itself was part of a trend that simply has run its course.
    The second most common reason that a cocktail disappears is that one or more of the ingredients used to make the drink become scarce.

    The Sour family of cocktails is home to some of the most popular cocktails in the world. The Sour platform is curiously sour, but with enough pure cane sugar sweetness to balance the tart notes of lemon. The Whiskey Sour is by far the most consumed Sour, but it is not the original Sour. That distinction belongs to the Brandy Sour.
    Whiskey Sour, Gin Sour, Amaretto Sour, and the rest of the Sours owe their existence to the Brandy Sour.  The first recipes for the Brandy Sour appeared in the 1850s but the drink surged in popularity after the Chicago World's fair in 1893.

Have you ever looked at a list of drinks on a menu and noticed a drink with a name so fierce that you can't help but wonder why anyone would ever want to drink it? Such is the case with the Corpse Reviver.
With a name like Corpse Reviver one would guess that this is rather tough cocktail. Not so. The Reviver's bark is much worse than its bite and this classic gin cocktail has a new lease on life (or death) thanks to a mid-century makeover.

In 1988 The Beach Boys hit number one with “Kokomo” ending a 22-year run without a chart topper. Their previous number one “Good Vibrations” topped the pop charts in 1966.
Is there really a Kokomo off the Florida Keys? No, there is not. There is however a Kokomo cocktail and it's a signature drinks at one of Chicagoland's most iconic bars, the Hala Kahiki.
