Town to spruce up for Route 66 celebration

    Highlighting how much of an asset Route 66 is to the community, city administrator Frank Koehler recently sent a friendly letter to property owners in and around the downtown business district, asking them to spruce up for the 11th annual Route 66 Red Carpet Corridor Celebration on Saturday, May 6, and Sunday, May 7.
    “No other roadway is as synonymous with travel, adventure and fun as Route 66,” he wrote. The Red Carpet Corridor event celebrates Route 66 and the important place it holds in the history and current success of the community.

Next weekly job fair to be April 26 at Workforce Center

JOLIET--  At today's Will County Board Meeting, members unanimously approved the appointment of Debbie Militello to the board's vacant position in District 6. The appointment comes after the previous representative of District 6, Ragan Freitag of Wilmington, retired from her position on the Board to become the Chief of Staff earlier this year.

CHICAGO - The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced that a full closure will take place on the Jackson Street bridge over the Des Plaines River, in Joliet, beginning, weather permitting, Monday, April 24. The closure is necessary for mechanical and electrical repairs to the bridge.
 

Bridge inspection will close lanes of I-80 next two weeks

CHICAGO - The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced that routine bridge inspections will take place on Interstate 80 over the Des Plaines River, in Joliet, beginning, weather permitting, Monday, April 24.
 
The bridge inspections will require daily lane closures on the structure that carries Interstate 80 over the Des Plaines River. Closures will begin on the westbound I-80 bridge the week of Monday, April 24. Inspections will switch to the eastbound I-80 bridge on Monday, May 1, and will be completed by Saturday, May 6, weather permitting.

Park Board president to resign

    The president of the Island Park District board of Commissioners is expected to tender his resignation during a special meeting on Friday evening.
    President Tom Glenn is moving to better care for an elderly family member. He’ll still have a Wilmington address, but will be about two miles outside of the district, and will not be able to retain his seat.
    “I don’t want to leave the Park Board,” Glenn said. “We’re so close to working things out with the city, and fixing things that have been needing to be fixed for 50 years.”

I-80 Bridge Replacement Nears for Old Plank Road Trail

Old Plank Road Trail users will soon have a new bridge to ride, walk and run on as they pass over Interstate 80.

As part of its plan to rework the I-80/Route 30 interchange in New Lenox sometime in the future, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is replacing the Old Plank Road Trail (OPRT) Bridge over the interstate. The new bridge will sit wider and higher on I-80 than the old one, requirements that were necessary for the planned interchange project.
