In the tiny, unincorporated community of Custer Park, you won’t find a public library or a public school or even a post office, but driving down Route 113 you will find something else — a volunteer fire department.
On Aug. 10, a powerful derecho swept through northern Illinois, knocking down tree limbs, power lines and, in some areas, even causing structural damages.
“Thankfully, we did not have any major incidents or any major reports of damage in the area from the storm,” said Ron Pruss, Custer Fire Protection District (CFPD) president.
