It’s been five years since Wilmington residents spent the fall raking their leaves to the side of the road, where a giant vacuum came through to suck up the mess and whisk it away.
Now, the once popular leaf vac program has returned to City Council for discussion, but with no immediate plans to flip the switch.
Wilmington’s leaf vac program first began in the late 1990s. The council originally purchased the leaf vac to give residents an alternative disposal method after burning leaves was banned.
