A look at the Coal City Police Department’s crime statistics for 2017 shows a marked reduction in crime, an achievement the chief of police attributes to his officers, “strong work ethic and sense of duty.”
Last year, the police department witnessed a 4 percent increase in call volume and realized a 46 percent decrease in index crimes
Considered the most serious crimes, index crimes are those that result in felony charges and include murder, robbery, criminal sexual assault, aggravated assault/battery, theft, motor vehicle theft, arson and human trafficking.
