The clouds turned the sky dark, the rain fell and it continued for nearly 22 hours.
“Officially our rain gauge at the shop, which is what I check, was 9 inches,” Coal City maintenance supervisor Darrell Olson said recalling the “rain event” on Sept. 27.
The prolonged and at times heavy rains caused widespread flooding throughout the village and resulted in damage to the town’s sewer plant.
