As Coal City’s varsity football team readies for Friday’s season opener, the home of Coaler pride will be eager to see how the program transitions to new head coach Dan Hutchings.
Hutchings replaces Lenny Onsen who left after winning 127 games over 17 seasons, and earning a second-place finish at state in 2004.
Onsen had only two losing seasons and qualified for playoffs every year but three (2000, 2006 and 2010). Among his 17 years as the head coach, Onsen compiled a record of 127-60, giving him a winning percentage of almost 70.
