THEBES, IL-Kevin Gene Dougherty, 50, of Thebes, IL, formally of Wilmington, passed away Feb. 13, 2013 at home with his family by his side following a four-year battle with cancer.
Kevin was born April 27, 1962 in Springfield, IL, the son of Charles and Honey Lou Dougherty of Wilmington. He was married to his childhood sweetheart, Tammy Monahan of Thebes on Nov. 1, 1999. After graduating from Reed-Custer High School, Kevin enlisted in the US Navy, where he served four years on the USS America. He was a member of the Apostolic Lighthouse Church in Thebes. He loved to hunt and fish and spend time with his children, grandchildren and the many special dances with his youngest daughter, Marlee. Kevin was a corrections officer at Tamms Correctional Center in Tamms, IL.
Survivors include his loving wife, Tammy, seven children: Dustin (Stormy) Of Thebes; Keri and Marvalee at home; Frank of Rushville, IL; Brenda of Syracuse, NY; Lyn (Daniel) of Norfolk VA; Miranda of Macomb, IL; three grandchildren: Camryn, Jimmie and Shane; his mother, Honey; one brother, William Dougherty of Ardmore, OK; three sisters, Glenda (Russ) Marshall of Verona, VA; Brenda Garrett of Bloomington, IL and Julie (Frank) Palmateer of Kankakee; mother and father-in-law, Jimmie and Marvalee Monahan of Thebes and one brother-in-law, Jon (Jeanie) Monahan of Thebes; dear friends, Neil and Helen Kefaurver of Cape Girardeau, MO and his special friend, Aunt Sissy of Thebes as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father.
A celebration of Kevin's life was held Feb. 16, 2013 at The Apostolic Lighthouse Church in Thebes with Rev. Jimmie Monahan and Rev. Dustin Easton officiating.
The prison Honor Guard and full military rites were conducted. Burial was at Rose Hill Cemetery in Thebes.
