WALNUT, IL-John Pogliano Sr., 91, of Walnut, IL passed away Friday, Jan. 18, 2013 at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton, IL.
John was born Aug. 15, 1921 in Coal City, the son of John and Vena (Stellone) Pogliano. He was united in marriage to Darlene Perry on March 2, 1946 at Immaculate Conception Church in Morris. John was a lifelong farmer in the Coal City and Walnut area and was a seed corn salesman since 1973. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church where he served as a trustee for many years and a member of the Farm Bureau. He was a 4-H leader for many years and a tax assessor for 18 years.
John is survived by his wife, Darlene Pogliano of Walnut; one son, John (Lana) Pogliano Jr. of Walnut; two daughters: Kathy Togliatti of Coal City and Mary (Steve) Bickett of Chicago; four grandchildren: John (Marcia) Pogliano III, Kristin (Jay) Ledergerber, Lisa (Bill) Smith and Mike Togliatti; 10 great-grandchildren, two sisters, one brother and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.
Visitation will be held Monday, Jan. 21, 2013 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013 at 10 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church in Walnut with Father Tom Shaw, pastor officiating.
Burial will be in Braceville Gardner Cemetery in Coal City.
A memorial has been established to the Walnut Food Pantry.
