WILMINGTON-Michael T. Van Duyne, "RAGS," 65, of Wilmington, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, Dec. 3, 2012.
Born Nov. 6,1947 in Joliet, Michael was the son of Thomas Peter and Betty Jean Naulty-Van Duyne. He was raised in Wilmington and graduated from Wilmington High School with the class of 1965. Mike was a Veteran of the United States Army and honorably served during the Viet Nam Era. Mike worked for Local 150 Operating Engineers as a crane operator until his retirement. Aside from being a member of Local #150, Mike also belonged to the Braidwood Recreational Center. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and Corvette enthusiast, who enjoyed fishing, camping and bonfires. RAGS will also be remembered for his love of golf.
Michael is survived by his wife, Marlene M. Van Duyne (nee Miller); son, Jacob McClellan of Armington, IL; sister, Juanita McDermott of Greenwood, IN; nephews: Ed (Melissa) Watson of Fishers, IN and Chris (Diana) Watson of Greenwood, IN and one niece, Erin Watson of Fishers, IN.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents: Thomas Peter and Betty Jean Naulty-Van Duyne; daughter, Melissa McClellan and two brothers: Tom Van Duyne and Dale Van Duyne.
Visitation and video tribute will be held on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012 between the hours of 4 and 8 p.m. at Freitag-Reeves & Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington.
Funeral services will follow Friday, Dec. 7 at 10 a.m. in the funeral home with Reverend Dr. Roy Backus officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood.
In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Michael's name to The Wilmington Fire Department Membership Fund, 501 North Main Street, Wilmington, IL 60481.
