'Just a spoonful of sugar'
"JUST A SPOONFUL of sugar" helps the medicine go down - Michele Wasielewski in the title role of Mary Poppins, teaches the Banks children, played by Kayla Lockhart (left) and Daniel Singleton (center) that they can have fun no matter what task they must undertake. Wilmington Community Theater will present "Mary Poppins" on Dec. 3, at 7 p.m., Dec. 4, at 7 p.m. and Dec. 5 at 1 p.m. in the high school cafetorium. Tickets may be purchased at Whitmore Ace Hardware and the Wilmington High School office. Ticket are $10 for adults and $8 for students and seniors.

Wilmington's Jolly Holiday starts next weekend
Santa Claus will arrive in Wilmington on Saturday, Nov. 28, as the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosts its 17th annual Winter Wonderland lighted Christmas parade and tree lighting.

Wilmington's water treatment plant, at 20 years, was showing its age.

The HVAC system was failing, and operators were using torpedo heaters on winter mornings to thaw ice in the bottoms of the clarifying cones.

The cones and the filters weren't operating efficiently, slowing down processing and costing the department in water usage and staff time.

About 48 percent of the water processed by the plant was unaccounted for; it was either used in processing, or lost through leaks in the distribution system.

Changes were made to the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad's closure plan for Lorenzo Road, moving full closure from this weekend to the workweek.

Tip leads to investigation and burglary arrests
A Wilmington and Braidwood man were charged with residential burglary after one of them was spotted looking into vehicles at a local dealership in the wee hours of the morning.
