1/15/2013 7:28:00 PM Hockey tourney pushed back another week
After a review of the weather report, the Coal City Park Board has decided to push its hockey tournament back another week.
Temperatures are expected to rise into the 40s by the end of the week and that's not ideal for the ice. So a decision was made late Tuesday to postpone the event for another week.
"We just can't catch a break," said Tyler Valiente, the tournament organizer.
Valiente said the new goal is to get the tournament in the weekend of Jan. 25 and 26, but at this point it all depends on the weather.
The 10-team tournament was originally scheduled for last weekend, Jan. 11-12, but forecasted warm temperatures and rain forced the postponement. Another issued was that there were only three teams signed up to play.
Currently four teams are registered and more are being sought. Registration forms are available at the Coal City Village Hall, 515 S. Broadway or on-line at www.coalcity-il.com.
Valiente said the tournament could be condensed into one day if there are fewer than 5 teams.
In the event the tournament can't be held this winter registration fees will be refunded.
The skating rink, located in Lions Park, is open to the public daily from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. as long as the ice conditions warrant skating.
Questions regarding the tournament should be directed to the village hall at 815-634-8608
