A tree full of monkeys, candy and Santas galore, all on display as holiday sights and then taken home to someone's delight.

The twinkling lights at this year's Coal City Community Promfest Festival of Trees drew hundreds of area residents to the Diamond Banquet Hall to view over 40 festival holiday displays up for raffle to raise money for the annual post-prom for Coal City High School students.

This year's event was supported by dozens of local business and organizations. The supporters provided the raffle items, and the 834 people attending the event purchased raffle tickets.

"Attendance was phenomenal. We had a wonderful array of themes and wonderful entertainment," said Deb Pearcy, a Promfest volunteer.

Pearcy and Shannon Manietta organized this year's festival and worked alongside several volunteers to design the various trees, wreaths and displays.

All funds raised from the event will be used to host a post-prom celebration on April 27, 2013, at Odyssey Fun World in Tinley Park. A new venue for the event was selected after the school opted to move the prom from Willowbrook to Mokena.

Pearcy said the new venue will provide a variety of indoor activities for students including laser tag and arcade games and if the weather permits several outdoor activities including batting cages and mini-golf.

Promfest is organized by parent volunteers and supported by community donations. Pearcy said the celebration costs between $17,000 and $20,000 which covers the cost of the venue, prizes and miscellaneous expenses.

"None of this would be possible without the support of our community," Pearcy said.
