"Their duty was to serve, Our duty is to remember."
The Grundy County Law Enforcement Managers Association held its annual Memorial Service honoring the county's fallen police officers and firefighters. The May 16 ceremony on the Grundy County Courthouse lawn recognized the sacrifice of Mashall Enoch T. Hopkins and patrolman Clarence Roseland of the Morris Police Department, firefighter James K. Allen of the Morris Fire Protection District and firefighter Kenneth J. Frayne of the Channahon Fire Department. The service also served to recognize all first responders killed in the line of duty. Michael K. Lappe, of the Chicago Police Department, provided the keynote address and Jim Cornelison, singer for the Chicago Blackhawks, presented the National Anthem. Participants also included the Grundy County Honor Guard, Joliet Police Department Pips & Drums Corps and vocalist Emma Roseland, great-granddaugter of Patrolman Roseland.
