Comets power past rival Wilmington
The Reed-Custer basketball team jumped on Wilmington from the start and never looked back in their 79-58 win Friday in Braidwood on Coaches vs. Cancer rivalry night.
"We played tremendously hard tonight and well at many times during the game," said head coach Mark Porter.
They led 22-12 after the first and increased the lead to 45-29 at the half.
R-C made a season-high 16 three-pointers.
Travis Schoonover and Eric Robinson both connected on three three's. Tyler Allen, Connor Anderson and Logan Berkland all made two.
Allen also led the scoring with 12 points, four rebounds, three assists and four steals.
Schoonover was also in double figures with 11 points and two steals and Anderson and Robinson both scored nine points.
Robinson also had three steals and Anderson made four steals.
Zac Lake and Berkland both scored six points. Lake also had five rebounds, two assists and two steals.
"The kids forced Wilmington into 32 turnovers which was a huge key for us," said Porter.
"Allen, Anderson and Logan Zavala each had four steals. Just a great job!"
Tyler Schoonover and Dalton Kinzler both had five points and four rebounds. Schoonover added three assists and three steals.
Mason Dransfeldt also scored five points to go along with two rebounds and Tyler Foote added four points, nine rebounds and three steals.
Mark Harper scored three points and Justin Edwards and Zavala rounded out the scoring with two points each.
Zavala added four rebounds, seven assists and four steals.
The Comets are now 8-17 on the season and 3-5 in conference play. They traveled to Dwight Tuesday and will travel to Herscher Friday.
